| Engineers Active Locally as They Plan International Project The Lehigh Valley Professionals Chapter of Engineers Without Borders-USA is gearing up now to select its official projects, both U.S. and international. But its members have already been very active in local work. The local chapter of the national group was formed earlier this year. They have spent the past several months organizing and preparing for the chapter’s own project. But that hasn’t stopped chapter members from getting involved. For example, Erika Squitieri pitched in on a community service project recently for America On Wheels, a non-profit transportation museum in Allentown. Daryl Callan joined a Habitat for Humanity building blitz in Bethlehem. And Dave Taschler, Glenn Wagner, and Bob Rice serve as mentors and teachers for the university chapters at Lehigh and Lafayette College. “We expect to choose our own project soon,” John Cirucci says, “but we’re making an impact already. The readiness to join local efforts shows how enthusiastic our people are.” Engineers Without Borders - USA (EWB) is a humanitarian organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for people in the developing world. EWB volunteers partner with communities around the world to help meet their essential needs: clean water and sanitation, reliable energy, shelter, transportation, and education. <For more information, see the Local Projects page> |
